Organic Barbecue Beef Biltong

A tasty snack for peckish moments - part of our cooked range

If you're not yet a convert, you soon will be when you taste our irresistible barbecue beef biltong. Eating biltong is a bit of a national obsession in its native South Africa and we can quite see why. It makes a satisfying between-meals snack, delivering a bit whack of smoky, tangy BBQ flavour with plenty of chew. And unlike lots of other snacks, biltong isn't all style over substance – it really fills you up, so is just what's needed to deal with rumbling tums.

But don't just settle on one flavour, try our original organic beef biltong and organic beef teriyaki biltong, too. If you are a biltong fanatic we have launched Coombe Farm Organic Biltong where you can fill all your biltong needs.

Traditionally, beef was cured with salts and spices and then hung under a shady tree to air dry in the warm African breeze. As that's less of a good idea down here in the West Country, we dehydrate our biltong in a drying room. Otherwise, the philosophy is about the same: we let our delicious BBQ cure penetrate deep into beef silverside joints, drawing out liquid and driving flavour through all of the muscle layers. The natural flavour of the meat is intensified and enhanced, while the drying process gives is really satisfying bite.

Unlike a lot of snack foods, biltong isn't fried, so it's not packed full of oils and it doesn't hide a whole load of sugars and synthetic preservatives. Pack it in your lunchbox to nibble on through the day or keep it in the store cupboard to use as a seasoning in stews. Just sprinkle a handful over a slow-cooking beef casserole to add a whole other dimension to familiar recipes. Alternatively, sit back and enjoy some BBQ biltong with a very cold glass of refreshing lager. The perfect partnership, indeed.

Product FAQs

  • We deliver our organic produce Tuesday – Saturday and you will be able to choose your preferred delivery day at the checkout. The delivery charge is £3.95.

  • Cooking or fermenting produce makes food taste amazing but how else can we preserve it so we can enjoy it for longer? By sealing in a sterile tin, jar or sealed packet that's how. Food stored in this way are known as ambient and can be placed in a cupboard, they will have a label with the 'Best Before' date on which is when you should consume it by.

  • 'Use By' means you should consume your produce by the date listed and discard if you go past this date, whereas 'Best Before' is slightly less precise if the product looks and smells ok, it is ok to consume only its taste might be slightly less flavoursome. If you have any concerns is it best to discard the product.
