Monkfish Fillets

Mild Monk Fish in taste with a wonderfully meaty texture

Though it's not much to look at from the outside, monkfish is sought after for its subtle, delicate flavour and dense meatiness that's not dissimilar to lobster. You'll see monkfish on many refined menus but it's also a great choice for goujons or homemade fish fingers as it holds together without flaking. It's a low calorie addition to a healthy diet and contributes the health-giving properties of B vitamins and lean protein. Coome Farm Organic monkfish fillets are carefully prepared so you won't be faced with any fiddling about. That means both the outer skin and the inner membrane have been removed.

By working with fishing partners here in the West Country, we're able to get the finest quality, freshest fish. Sustainable fishing is vital to us, so we've built up relationships with fishing businesses that share our philosophy. They don't target individual species of fish, rather they make use of a mixed catch in the way their grandfathers would have. The Marine Stewardship Council work with fishermen ensuring we have healthy well-populated oceans for years to come.

Product FAQs

  • We deliver our organic produce Tuesday – Saturday and you will be able to choose your preferred delivery day at the checkout. The delivery charge is £3.95.

  • Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at Coombe Farm Organic we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.

Fisheries catch fillet and freeze all sustainable and organic fish before it arrives to us by blast freezing. It’s done at the point of the fishmongers filleting the fish, to temperatures of -26°C. This locks in all the freshness, flavour and nutritional value and means you get the longest possible shelf life at home once you’ve defrosted it.

It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh fish would be much more challenging.

  • Sustainability is a key concept when it comes to choosing the fish that you eat. It's measured in three ways. Firstly, the number of fish taken from the sea must leave behind a healthy, productive population that can reproduce quickly enough to support the levels at which they're fished. Secondly, environmental impact on habitats, ecosystems and other species must be minimised. And thirdly, fisheries must be well managed, be humane and be able to adapt to environmental changes. At Coombe Farm Organic, we work with fishing partners who fish to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standards with a responsible attitude that reflects our organic farming ethos.

Monkfish fillets are super-versatile and can be pan-fried, roasted or mixed into stews, curries and stir-fries. Marinate before cooking with intense ingredients such as citrus, chilli, garlic and herbs to compliment the meat and infuse it with rich flavour. If you're in a rush, monkfish fillets can be cooked in a flash making them perfect for quick suppers and stress-free entertaining. Excited to try our monkfish fillets but not sure what to do with them? For a Mediterranean take, wrap each fillet in bacon or pancetta and bake in the oven in rich tomato sauce scented with herbs. Allow one fillet per person.
