Organic Nitrate-free Smoked Streaky Bacon
Award winning, Crispy, crunchy texture finds a best friend in smoky, meaty flavour
Simple to cook and about as versatile as you can get, Coombe Farm Organic's smoked streaky bacon is a freezer staple you should always keep on hand. Because we want to be able to taste all the elements that go into making our bacon – organic pork belly, the cure ingredients and the smoke – we follow a careful, traditional process that keeps the balance in perfect check. Chemicals (including nitrates) are most certainly not invited to this party: we use sea salt and brown sugar, in our dry cure, and natural wood smoke in the smokehouse. It's pretty simple, but the results are sensational. Here's how to make your own

Making the most of the natural flavours and textures of the meat we get from our organic pigs is important to us. Which is why we don't mind taking a bit of time to get things right. Curing is an ancient technique originally devised to preserve meat. As the salt slowly permeates the meat, moisture is drawn out, flavours become more intense and are enhanced by the aromatics in our cure mix. This is then overlayed with the rich earthiness of woodsmoke, adding yet another dimension.

Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at Coombe Farm Organic we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.
We use blast freezing to preserve all of our meat products. It’s done at the point of butchery, to temperatures of -26°C. This locks in all the freshness, flavour and nutritional value and means you get the longest possible shelf life at home once you’ve defrosted it.
It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh meat would be much more challenging.
-
All of our meat is butchered in our in-house butchery by our small team. This means we have full control of what is cut and also means that we can accommodate more requests from our customers.
You will find any product ingredients on the relevant product pages.

There really are few more satisfying meals than a few rashers of smoked streaky between slices of soft granary bread with just a dollop of sweet ketchup. In our opinion, this is an any-time-of-the-day treat that shouldn't just be limited to breakfast. For delicious brunch, try dry-frying some smoked streaky bacon until it's crisp. Roughly chop it, mix it through a thick pancake batter with some finely chopped parsley and chives, then fry in a non-stick pan in batches. Serve with a golden-yolked poached egg and some hollandaise, if you're feeling fancy.

Just loved this streaky smoked bacon so full of flavour.I added some to a thick vedg soup a meal in one. The only slight draw back for myself is that the pack is frozen all togetherand I live on my own so I have to defrost it all at the same time... Very nice thick pieces. Not as strong a flavour as nitrate filled bacon but I can live with that, literally. On the whole a very nice bacon. Grilles well, very crispy. Had it with brie & caramelised onion in a panini. Very happy customer. Very nice thick pieces. Not as strong a flavour as nitrate filled bacon but I can live with that, literally. I eat mostly vegetarian food but one thing I miss is bacon. I buy this as it contains no nasty nitrates. It makes a lovely tasty treat. I eat mostly vegetarian food but one thing I miss is bacon. I buy this as it contains no nasty nitrates. It makes a lovely tasty treat.
