Steak and Ale Pie
Steak + ale + pastry = heavenly pies
Our steak and ale pie will fill the hungriest tummies and satisfy the fussiest of pie eaters. Diced stewing steak and lashings of ale are slow cooked until the meat is falling-apart tender and infused with the flavour of the ale. Combined with crumbly buttery short crust pastry the result is the perfect marriage of flavours and textures. A sprinkling of seasoning and a well-reduced (but plentiful) gravy are all that's needed to finish off this king of pies.

Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at Coombe Farm Organic we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.
We use blast freezing to preserve all of our meat products. It’s done as soon as our pies are made, to temperatures of -26°C. This locks in all the freshness, flavour and nutritional value and means you get the longest possible shelf life at home once you’ve defrosted it.
It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh pies would be much more challenging.
-
At coombe farm organic we like to work with like-minded organic and/or sustainable producers to bring you delicious produce, our pie makers are just down the road from us, keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum
You will find any product ingredients on the relevant product pages.

Can't Find the Answer?
If you cannot find the answer to your question and would like to speak to someone contact us and we will be happy to help.
For the best results, we recommend fully defrosting your steak and ale pie before cooking. Brush the pastry lid with egg wash and cook your pie at 180°C for about 20 minutes, until it's golden all over and irresistibly crispy. Serve with a glass of your favourite hoppy ale. It would be rude not to.

This was the best of all the pies I’ve tried so far. The steak was beautifully tender and melted in the mouth. A lovely ale gravy. This was the best of all the pies I’ve tried so far. The steak was beautifully tender and melted in the mouth. A lovely ale gravy.

The steak itself does not 'appear' to be as soft as the Steak & Mushroom pie although I would assume that the same meat is used for both? But love the flavour although again the pastry around the sides and bottom of the pie can be become a little... The pies are perfect - a lovely meal when I just don’t have time too cook or to head to the pub! All flavours are fab and I add a couple of veggies to make it a full plate. This is my second order from Coombe Farm and I have been incredibly impressed with the quality of their meat and broths, their exceptional service, the thought and care gone into eco friendly and very effective packaging ( most of the ice packs are still frozen when my order arrives) that we re-use and repurpose...so no waste here. I've looked for many years for someone who would deliver to where we live in Scotland without charging as much, or more, for delivery...or someone that would even deliver to our area...so imagine my surprise to find a farm that not only delivers everywhere...but does not charge extra! Organic foods may cost more than mass produced...however, you truly get what you pay for. I have ordered broths, chickent, venison, beef, pies and lasagna and we have been extremely satisfied with the taste of everything. I truly feel like we found a goldmine with Coombe Farm. I do not normally write long reviews...but they deserve it and I HIGHLY recommend them. Even in these uncertain days, they have never sacrificed on quality of products or service and their communication via emails to keep you informed is well appreciated. So, a heartfelt thank you to you all!

Placed an order for several items and it came very quickly, beautifully packaged, well insulated with frozen ice packs. All that we have eaten so far has been excellent. Highly recommended.
