Smoked Haddock Fillets

Homely, comforting and oh-so versatile - part of our Sustainable Fish range

Sustainably caught and naturally smoked, Coombe Farm Organic smoked haddock fillets are a comforting taste of seafood tradition. They are smoked used traditional techniques in a small smokery in Devon. This is a gentle process that lets the flavour of the smoke enhance the natural character of the fish, without overwhelming it. And, of course, we never, ever dye our smoked fish – no lurid yellow haddock round here, thank you. Looking for a delicious recipe? Try our Fish Pie recipe.

At Coombe Farm Organic we only stock sustainable fish. Our haddock fillets are caught using sustainable fishing methods and are approved by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). The MSC is an independent non-profit organization which sets a standard for sustainable fishing - assuring seafood products that have come from well-managed and sustainable fisheries, ensuring healthy oceans and safeguarding seafood supplies for the future.

Haddock was traditionally smoked as a means of preservation. These days we just love it for the delicate flavour it imparts. It's distinctive and earthy, making it a great addition to recipes that call for just that background hum of smoke. All of the haddock we use is caught by local West Country fishing boats in the English Channel. Sustainable fishing, like organic farming, is central to our ethos and we only work with fishing partners who share our philosophy, every fisherman follows the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Standards look for their blue label this ensure the safeguarding of the oceans fish population for years to come.

Product FAQs

  • We deliver our organic produce Tuesday – Saturday and you will be able to choose your preferred delivery day at the checkout. The delivery charge is £3.95.

  • Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at Coombe Farm Organic we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.

Fisheries catch fillet and freeze all sustainable and organic fish before it arrives to us by blast freezing. It’s done at the point of the fishmongers filleting the fish, to temperatures of -26°C. This locks in all the freshness, flavour and nutritional value and means you get the longest possible shelf life at home once you’ve defrosted it.

It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh fish would be much more challenging.

  • Sustainability is a key concept when it comes to choosing the fish that you eat. It's measured in three ways. Firstly, the number of fish taken from the sea must leave behind a healthy, productive population that can reproduce quickly enough to support the levels at which they're fished. Secondly, environmental impact on habitats, ecosystems and other species must be minimised. And thirdly, fisheries must be well managed, be humane and be able to adapt to environmental changes. At Coombe Farm Organic, we work with fishing partners who fish to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standards with a responsible attitude that reflects our organic farming ethos.

    Can't Find the Answer?

If you cannot find the answer to your question and would like to speak to someone contact us and we will be happy to help.

For a very quick and simple (but, in our opinion, unbeatable) supper, gently poach your smoked haddock fillets in milk until the flesh is opaque and falls easily into flakes. Drain and serve the haddock with smooth, buttery mash and minted peas. The delicacy of smoked haddock makes it a great breakfast alternative to the more strongly flavoured kipper. Poach, grill or pan fry your fish and serve it with a gently poached egg and thickly cut brown bread. A slice or two of black pudding on the side doesn't go amiss, either.
