Organic Mutton Bones

Make a rich and delicious broth that can't be beaten for flavour, using bones from our grass-fed organic mature lamb

Our mutton comes from ewes who have spent several years grazing on our organic, clover-rich organic grass which gives a distinctively rich flavour. Grab some organic mutton bones, add your herbs of choice, cover with water and simmer for as long as you dare. The result? Some of the heartiest (and purest) stock you'll ever taste. Portioned up and stored in the freezer, this will be your go-to ingredient for making sauces and soups that really deliver on flavour. Sunday lunch had better watch out: your gravy will never have tasted so good.

At Coombe Farm Organic we have a head-to-hoof philosophy that scorns waste and champions resourcefulness. We don't throw bits away when we're butchering just because they look a bit funny or need some extra thought when cooking. Bones are among our favourite parts of any carcass because they have untold flavour lurking within, just waiting to be coaxed out. There's the collagen-rich connective tissue, of course, which melts away into the cooking liquor. And the bone marrow, too – a really nutritious treat. Added to those you'll find some bits of meat, as even the most meticulous butcher can't get it all. When these combine in a homemade stock they're an unbeatable partnership.

  • Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at Coombe Farm Organic we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.

We use blast freezing to preserve all of our meat products. It’s done at the point of butchery, to temperatures of -26°C. This locks in all the freshness, flavour and nutritional value and means you get the longest possible shelf life at home once you’ve defrosted it.

It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh meat would be much more challenging.

  • All of our meat is butchered in our in-house butchery by our small team. This means we have full control of what is cut and also means that we can accommodate more requests from our customers.

You will find any product ingredients on the relevant product pages.

    Can't Find the Answer?

If you cannot find the answer to your question and would like to speak to someone contact us and we will be happy to help.

When using your organic mutton bones to make stock (or broth – we don't mind which you call it) you can go minimalist (bones + water + heat), traditional (add a few woody herbs and some root veg) or avant-garde (chuck in whatever you fancy – garlic, ginger, chilli, fennel, spices). The really important part is giving it plenty of time so all of the flavour can be extracted from the bones and the connective tissues can dissolve away and fortify the liquid. Popping your pan in the oven and leaving it all night on the lowest possible heat is a fuss-free route to top-notch stock.
