Organic Lamb Bones

Perfect for thrifty – and flavoursome – home broth making

Making full-flavoured stocks and comforting broths at home is a doddle with our organic lamb bones. All that's needed is the slowest of slow simmers to render down the connective tissues and collagen from the joints. Bags of flavour and all the locked-in goodness are released at the same time. Be brave and cook your bones gently for 24 hours to really get the most out of them. The result is a warming and intensely flavoured broth that adds another dimension to lamb stews, casseroles and curries. Oh, and your gut will be happy, too! Looking for an alternative to our organic lamb bones .....have a look at our Goat Bones.

Any broth will only be as good as the ingredients that go into it. At Coombe Farm Organic, all of our lamb is reared in an organic system that's approved by the Soil Association. Our sheep eat a diet of grass – they're not fattened up on grain-based concentrates – which means they grow slowly to maturity, building lean muscles and strong skeletons. As we don't administer drugs routinely – only on veterinary advice – and we double recommended withdrawal times, you can be assured that our lamb bones are clean, untainted and natural.

  • Our products are sent to our customers frozen because when we started the business we looked into convenience for our customers. We found that sending the produce frozen meant that they could order for instance a month’s worth of produce and could go into their freezer until they are ready to use it. It also meant that there was less risk to the meat whilst been delivered as fresh meat can be delicate and risky.

  • All of our meat is butchered in house. In December 2018 our in-house butcher was built which means that we have full control of what is cut and also means that we can accommodate more requests from our customers.

You will find all the ingredients on the relevant product pages.

  • We have a dedicated page which explains all the different cuts and where they come from. Find out more here

    Can't Find the Answer?

If you cannot find the answer to your question and would like to speak to someone contact us and we will be happy to help.

Matching your stock to the meat you're cooking adds tremendous depth to any dish. The distinctive flavour of lamb means that using chicken or beef stock in a stew or casserole can result in a taste that's not quite harmonious. It's so easy to make your own stock – if you’re a purist, cover your bones in water alone for a totally unadulterated base for soups, casseroles and gravies. Add root veg or herbs (rosemary and thyme are traditional, coriander stalks add an exotic twist) for more complexity. If you want to branch out, splash in some cider, white wine or a drop of vinegar. The longer you let your broth simmer the better it will be, so try putting it in a very low oven (on the conventional, not fan, setting) or in a slow cooker. It's easier to maintain a really low temperature this way and you lose less liquid to evaporation.
