Organic Nitrate-Free Smoked Back Bacon

Breakfast wouldn't be the same without it

The smell and sizzle of frying bacon is up there with the best of life's pleasures. But you'll have noticed that not all bacons are created equal. At Coombe Farm Organic, we take pride in the way we make our nitrate-free smoked back bacon, and we think you'll really be able to tell the difference. Organic is obviously important to us, but so is natural, which means we cure our bacon without the help of chemicals such as nitrates. We've pared the process right back and use only sea salt, brown sugar, juniper, bay and black pepper as curing agents. After a spell in the smokehouse over natural woodsmoke, we end up with bacon that has exactly the taste and texture it should have. want to make your own smoked bacon see our recipe here

Coombe Farm Organic's smoked back bacon is made from a cut that incorporates both the loin and belly of the pig carcass. The larger, oval part of the rasher is the loin, and the littler bit on the end is the belly. We leave on enough fat to make sure the bacon stays moist and juicy when cooked, but you won't find a thick layer of rind on our rashers. A lot of industrially produced bacon is produced by injecting the meat with brine, to make it cure more quickly. When you cook it, you find a lot of water in the frying pan. Because we use traditional curing methods, you won't get water out of our bacon. Just amazing flavour.

Product FAQs

  • We deliver our organic produce Tuesday – Saturday and you will be able to choose your preferred delivery day at checkout. The delivery charge is £3.95.

  • Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at Coombe Farm Organic we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.

We use blast freezing to preserve all of our meat products. It’s done at the point of butchery, to temperatures of -26°C. This locks in all the freshness, flavour and nutritional value and means you get the longest possible shelf life at home once you’ve defrosted it.

It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh meat would be much more challenging.

  • All of our meat is butchered in our in-house butchery by our small team. This means we have full control of what is cut and also means that we can accommodate more requests from our customers.

You will find any product ingredients on the relevant product pages.

The robust smokiness of smoked back bacon make it the king of the breakfast table, yes, but it also holds its own when cut into strips, fried quickly with onion and stirred through creamy macaroni cheese. Or flash fry it on the barbecue and pop it on top of your favourite burger for an indulgent treat.
