Organic Nitrate-Free Smoked Gammon
A beautiful pork joint to enjoy at any time of the year
What's the difference between gammon and ham? Well, there isn't really one. Once you've boiled and roasted a gammon it becomes a ham. So gammon is an uncooked joint and ham is a cooked one. That's the simple answer. Equally delicious to eat hot or cold.
Lightly cured, we never use nitrites or nitrates in our gammon, instead simply combining sea salt with demerara sugar, to let the true flavour of our organic, free-range pork shine through. As a result, our gammon doesn't have that same lurid pink colour its more mainstream counterparts, but more than makes up for it with its mouth-watering flavour. They are lightly smoked over wood following a traditional method at a family-run smokery in Wiltshire.

- 1kg, Serves 3-4
Coombe Farm Organic's smoked gammon starts with our organic, free-range pigs. They're a cross between two native breeds – the Saddleback and the Gloucester Old Spot – which means they produce meat with intense flavour that's beautifully balanced with just the right amount of fat. Leg joints are brined then smoked following a traditional method at a family-run smokery in Wiltshire. We never use nitrates, nitrites or any other chemicals in our smoked gammon, so you can be certain that the distinctive flavour is purely natural.

Freezing is the most natural way of preserving food. And as here at Coombe Farm Organic we believe in slow-grown, healthy food, a form of preservation that doesn’t need artificial additives gets a big tick from us.
It also guarantees it will arrive with you in tiptop condition - confidently delivering fresh meat would be much more challenging.
-
All of our meat is butchered in our in-house organic butchery by our small, experienced team.
You will find any product ingredients on the relevant product pages.

Can't Find the Answer?
If you cannot find the answer to your question and would like to speak to someone contact us and we will be happy to help.
To cook your smoked gammon joint, first boil for 20 minutes per 500g, plus 20 minutes extra. You can add extra flavour to the cooking liquor with all sorts of spices, oranges and lemons and even a good splash of cider. Once boiled, smear on your choice of glaze – honey and mustard, marmalade or maple syrup are all good choices – and roast until just starting to brown (about 20 minutes) in a moderate oven. Make sure you keep an eye on it, though, as sugary glazes can easily catch and start charring.

I have never tasted a gammon so good. So many people commented on it - in various dishes (after roast on Xmas day) - I’ll be buying again!! I have never tasted a gammon so good. So many people commented on it - in various dishes (after roast on Xmas day) - I’ll be buying again!!

It was marvellous to find gammon that is safe to eat - I have had cancer and must avoid the standard preservatives used for meat. Better still it is utterly delicious, a good mild cure and very moreish. So it's 5 stars for the gammon itself.... Detailed instructions were included for disposal of the ice packs, but although I am an extremely committed recycler this was too much even for me. As I am very impressed with the produce, In future I shall stock up when in the vicinity of the shop using my own cool bags.

This gammon was good but on the mild side. More like pork when hot - more hammy cold. I liked it enough to order more for christmas. I forgot to look for ham stock bones which I needed to make soup the cooking water had very lpyyle flavour. This gammon was good but on the mild side. More like pork when hot - more hammy cold. This was very good. I simmered with aromats. Then roasted with a bergamot marmalade glaze. So, so good and the stock made a delicious soup with lentils, beans and vegetables. Leftover gammon made wonderful sandwiches and salad. This was very good. I simmered with aromats. Then roasted with a bergamot marmalade glaze. Good quality smoked gammon for boiling/roasting, unfortunately the strings got loose and fell off so the meat rolled out and didn't make for a nice presentation. The ham was definitely the highlight of Christmas for my husband and all our visitors. Very good depth of taste and great to know it’s smoked without nitrites. Will be ordering again next year.
